Founded in 1879 the Alamosa Fire Department provides fire suppression and rescue services for the City and County of Alamosa.
The Alamosa Fire Department is actually two departments operating as one. The City of Alamosa is responsible for providing fire protection and rescue services for the citizens within the city limits of Alamosa. The Alamosa County Fire Protection District is responsible for providing fire protection and rescue services for citizens residing outside the city limits within Alamosa County.
Through an intergovernmental agreement both departments are housed in the same facilities. The same manpower is used to provide protection in both the city and the county. The City and the Fire District each purchase their own apparatus however they have combined efforts in the past when the ladder and rescue trucks were purchased. Other firefighting equipment that is needed in the day to day operations of the department is furnished by both entities.
